COMMUNITIES INSPIRED BY MACKINTOSH

Glasgow Woodworking Club

George from Glasgow Woodworking measures up one of the box armchairs

Lots of people are inspired by Mackintosh or Margaret Macdonald to work on their own creative projects, and we are more than happy to welcome them into the building and show them round. Stencilling is of course very popular both for home interiors and upcycling furniture, but we’ve had people in inspired by the lampshades in the Billiard Room, the colour schemes of the rooms and of course the woodwork.

Why not visit yourself and be inspired?!

GLASGOW WOODWORKING CLUB

MOVE ON GLASGOW CREATIVE WRITING GROUP

Move On Glasgow provide friendly support and creative activities for adults in the Glasgow area, and Mackintosh At The Willow is a perfect place for an inspiring creative writing workshop. The tour brings the building and the historic characters to life and a wee cup of tea and bit of shortbread keeps up everyone’s energy when those pens start to feel heavy! Read some of their amazing poems below.

CHARLES  RENNIE  MACKINTOSH

The architect who died poor and broke

Forgotten by his own town folk

Created a dry house where everyone smoked

The little ladies' room a bit of a joke

This was before they were able to vote

The man’s room was the place to be

They hid the drink where no-one could see

Can you believe he made it look Japanese?

Taking designs from overseas

A failed artist until his death

A disabled cripple just doing his best

Stephen Scott

We’re at the Rennie Mackintosh

Where the lass that ran the gaff

Made a shitload of cash

Smoke and dust Glasgow was rough

But this was a place of taste and grace

Women were free to say what they please

And not worrying about he

The staff were treated with class

But never forgot their old ass

They got paid on the days

They needed to sneeze

Stories and tales

But none supplied by ale

Men weren’t forgot

They had a room at the top
