A Close Shave

The recent conservation report on the condition of the Tea Rooms had highlighted that the render (plaster applied to brick facing) on the front of the Tea Rooms on Sauchiehall Street might be in danger of coming away. As this was an obvious risk to the public a ‘cherry picker’ carrying relevant experts and Celia Sinclair, Chair of the Trust, was used yesterday and a full evaluation of the facade was conducted. Fortunately, it was only a small amount of render at danger and that was safely removed. But as the conservation expert explained, the Tea Rooms probably couldn’t have survived another winter in their current condition, which proves how fortunate it is that the project is underway.
